Best Garden Hose
What's the Best Garden Hose for me?

There are many reasons to keep your garden hose on a hose reel.
It certainly looks better than if it’s all strewn about the ground
The hose keeps cleaner; I have some hoses that have been on the ground seemingly forever and they are permanently discolored. Depending on where a hose is this may be an issue.
The hose is protected. I’ve had the misfortune of destroying a hose with a lawnmower. It was close to invisible in the grass it had been forgotten in. I've also driven over many hoses. A decent garden hose survives, but the end fittings and hose nozzle may not.
It’s certainly convenient for a number of reasons depending on the type of garden hose holder you have.
I have a number of different types, including carts with
big inflatable wheels, but the most common type is a wall mounted hose reel.
They come in various sizes and styles ranging from large capacity reel to
small capacity and from ornate to merely functional.
I have a wall mount hose reel in the front of my house where a hose lives in
the summer. It never goes far but is used to water the flowers in front and
the tomatoes and other veggies I grow in pots in front as that is where I
have the best sun. We also have a short garden hose on a wall mounted reel
at the family summer house. It’s used simply to wash up after coming in off
the beach. There is no need for a moving garden hose cart or reel here, and
if there was I sure the kids would be a bit too tempted to play with it
anyways :)
Of course there are wall mount reels for other types of hoses too, for example pneumatic, but this is a gardening site!
The
Ames True Temper 2388700 Hose King
is a very popular hose reel that is made in the
USA.
It holds 225 feet of 5/8 inch hose, and has a heavy duty handle and a sliding guide that easily guides the hose in place.
It also has a storage tray and towel bar and the reel and hose can easily be removed to store the hose inside during the winter or off season.
It has a 7 year warranty, comes with a brass coupled 4 1/2 foot leader hose with a 90 degree bend proof watering system.
Ames backs its hose reel with a 7-year warranty.
Reviews in general are quite good, but range from DDJ in Fremont's 5 star review of "Does all it's supposed to do" to Alvocado in Cincinnati who says "Complete junk."

This Suncast 100-Foot Wall-Mount Hose Reel
is also very popular.
It holds 100 feet of 5/8 inch garden hose, the big stuff, comes fully assembled, has a guide for easy winding.
It also has a convenient removable reel for winter hose storage - you can store the hose and reel easily in the garage, shed, or wherever for the winter.
The "easylink system" creates a watertight connection to the hose.
This is a less expensive plastic model, and as expected
reviews are all over the place, although they average 3 out of 5 stars. Click Here

products and am happy with them.
These are both more on the functional than beautiful style, although they blend into most environments well.
A much more attractive hose reel is the Ames True Temper Decorative Bronze Wall Mount Hose Reel
- I love this one!
It's made of durable rust free aluminum with a antique bronze finish which is much more attractive than plastic (in my opinion).
It's a wall-mount unit and holds 125 feet of 5/8 inch hose.
It has a 7 year warranty and most reviews are superlative.
Dan Dalton in his 2009 review says, "Far Superior to Any Plastic Reel."

Downside? It only holds 125 feet of hose and is a bit more expensive.
